Jharkhand Assembly Elections: JMM and Congress Unite to Contest 70 Seats
Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, representing the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), made a significant announcement on Saturday regarding the upcoming state assembly elections. He confirmed that the partners of the INDIA bloc will unite in their electoral efforts. Following a meeting with coalition allies in Ranchi, Soren revealed that the Congress and JMM will jointly field candidates for 70 of the total 81 seats.
“The INDIA bloc will present a united front in the Jharkhand assembly elections,” Soren declared. He elaborated that the two parties have agreed to contest the majority of the seats, with candidate selections expected to be announced soon. Discussions regarding the allocation of the remaining 11 seats with allies, including the Left and RJD, are still ongoing.
The Jharkhand assembly elections, covering all 81 constituencies, will take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the results to be counted on November 23. A total of approximately 2.6 crore voters will be eligible to participate, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters, 1.13 lakh individuals with disabilities, and seniors over 85 years old.
In a parallel development, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) disclosed its seat-sharing arrangement on Friday. According to this formula, the BJP will contest 68 seats, the AJSU Party will take 10, JD(U) will field candidates for 2, and the LJP (Ram Vilas) will compete for 1. In the previous 2019 elections, the JMM-led coalition secured a total of 47 seats, with the JMM claiming 30 and the Congress winning 16, while the BJP managed to win 25 seats. The political landscape is poised for a competitive electoral battle as the parties gear up for the polls.
